Tadlock Family Farm

Growing up in rural NW Mecklenburg County, Rick Tadlock has been raised around home grown food and urban farming his whole life. Early memories for him were hearing the cackling of hens and the roosters daily, as well as helping his mom and dad tend to the goats and pigs that they raised for their own sustainability. Gardening has always played a large part of his upbringing. In 2003 Rick met his wife Sandy, a northern transplant, and a few years later, the couple set up home on the very same land that Rick grew up on and where most of the Tadlock family still reside today. Having grown up as a city girl, Sandy new nothing about country life, gardening or raising chickens but soon realized what a treasure it was to live a simple life and never looked back. Sandy is also a professional chef by trade and enjoys sharing her passion for healthy local food with others by teaching cooking classes and serving as a corporate chef for two nationally known companies. Rick is also a NC certified Master Gardener.

Rick and Sandy operate a small family urban mini farm in their NW Mecklenburg County backyard and on their modest 3/4 acre homestead, raise a flock of 36 Sex Link hens, two rabbits that contribute to their composting efforts and a large garden with raised beds that yield all sustainably grown produce without the use of any chemicals or pesticides. Their cage free hens enjoy a large roaming area, a large chicken house built by Rick and his father, and are fed an all natural diet with plenty of grass and greens from their very own garden. Providing local food to customers gives them a strong sense of community and pride and keeps the deep rooted family farming tradition alive and well. You will find them at the Denver Farmers Market with their family farm fresh eggs and the very best in seasonal summer tomatoes.
